WUN Virtual Seminar: Race, religion and the 'Other' in the making of European identity

27 October 2011 | 8.00am - 10.00am | Seminar

Videoconferencing Suite, Level 12, Roger Stevens Building

Join us for the next postgraduate-led virtual seminar of the White Spaces Network: 'Race, religion and the 'Other' in the making of European identity'.  We will use two texts (listed below) to navigate our discussion on historical and contemporary constructions of (white) European-ness through shifting religious, racial and migratory topographies.

Space at the event is limited.  Participants must RSVP by 12:00pm on Tuesday 25th October by emailing Say Burgin.

We will be linking with the University of Sydney and the University of Southampton.

Two readings:

Carr, M (2006) 'You are now entering Eurabia', Race & Class 48(1) 1-22

El-Tayeb, F. (2008) '"The Birth of a European Public": Migration, Postnationality and Race in the Uniting of Europe', American Quarterly 60(3) 649-670
