Dr Paul Bagguley

Senior Lecturer in Sociology

My main interests concern the sociology of protest, social movements, economic sociology, urban sociology, sociological theory, racism and ethnicity.

In the fields of economic sociology and urban studies, I have worked on post-Fordism, post-industrialism, economic restructuring, trade unions, local labour markets, and gender segregation in employment.

Research Interests

I have recently completed a project on South Asian women and higher education with Dr. Yasmin Hussain, and we are currently working on a book on the impact of the London bombings on different ethnic groups in West Yorkshire.

Previously, I have also carried out extensive research on the urban 'riots' of 2001, unemployment and social protest, anti-poll-tax protest, and new social movements.

Teaching

My main teaching is in the area of protest and social movements. I also contribute to general sociology modules, and sociological theory.

PhD Supervision

I am mainly interested in supervising PhDs in the area of protest and social movements, but I have supervised theses in the past in the areas of racism and ethnicity studies, work and employment and social theory.
