School of Sociology and Social Policy

Dr Cinnamon Bennett

Senior Research Fellow

I am a Senior Research Fellow whose specialist area of work falls between Sociology and Social Policy. Before working as a Research Fellow, I was the Gender Manager of the Objective 1 Programme in South Yorkshire, responsible for mainstreaming a gender perspective into all funded activities.

I have also been a Lecturer of Sociology at Sheffield Hallam University where I taught Gender Studies, Equal Opportunities and Qualitative Research Methods at masters and undergraduate levels.

Research Interests

My key areas of research are gender and employment, and the implementation of workplace policies and practices to advance equality and diversity, including gender mainstreaming.

I am the Business Manager of CIRCLE, responsible for the centre's knowledge transfer activities to policy-makers in the public, private and third sectors.

Teaching

My teaching is informed by my research areas. I will be teaching an elective module on the new 'MA in Equality and Diversity', focusing on the implementation of equality and diversity policies and concepts in localities and regions.

PhD Supervision

I am keen to supervise research students in a range of areas including equal opportunities in the workplace at organisational, occupational and individual levels; gender mainstreaming and diversity policies and practices; and women's employment, training and career development in local labour markets.
