Dr Chris Till

Lecturer in Social Theory

I completed my BA in Sociology at Nottingham Trent University before completing my MA in Social Research and PhD in the School of Sociology and Social Policy at Leeds.
I have taught on a number sociology modules particularly social theory as well as those related to my other interests of health and gender.
I also taught for two years at the School of Health and Related Research at the University of Sheffield

Research Interests

My research interests are generally in social theory but are centred around the relationship between scientific knowledge, governmentality, biopolitics gender and bodies. I have a particular interest in psychiatric practices and technologies and the history of masculine bodies. As well as a broad interest in social theory my work is particularly informed by Michel Foucault, Nikolas Rose and Norbert Elias.

Teaching

My teaching is primarily in social theory on the modules
Sociological Thinking (Level One)
Central Problems in Sociology (Level Two)
Reading the Classics (Level Three-module leader).

I also contribute to other modules in the school as a guest lecturer.
