Welcome to the Bauman Institute
The Bauman Institute is a new international research and teaching centre dedicated to addressing key social problems that affect rapidly changing societies across the globe.
Established in honour of Leeds’ Emeritus Professor, Zygmunt Bauman, the Bauman Institute’s research interests focus specifically upon processes of international social change and the global impact of major social issues.
Our primary research interests are informed by the concerns of Zygmunt Bauman's sociology, namely: consumerism, globalization, ethics, power, and the analysis of modernity. We are also concerned with the on-going interpretation of Bauman's writing and the importance of his ideas for understanding social life in the twenty-first century.
