Partnerships and networks
The Centre for International Research on Care, Labour and Equalities (CIRCLE) is involved in a number of partnership and networks that seek to deliver research and consultancy activities to academic and external agencies.
Carers and Social Inclusion: New frameworks, evidence and policy lessons(2011-2013)
This an Australian Research Council (ARC) 'Linkage project' based at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), where is it led by Dr Trish Hill and her colleagues Professor Bettina Cass and Dr Susan Green in the Social Policy Research Centre, Australia's foremost centre for social policy research.
The project is being undertaken in partnership with the following Australian organisations: Ageing Disability & Home Care, Department of Human Services NSW; Carers Australia Inc; Department for Families & Communities South Australia; Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, NSW; and the Health and Social Inclusion Unit, South Australia. At CIRCLE, Professor Sue Yeandle will participate in the project as a Partner Investigator on behalf of the University of Leeds.
GSIA The Global Social Initiative on Ageing (2011-2013)
This is a World Wide Universities Network, Research Development Funded (WUN RDF) project led by Professor Norah Keating at the University of Alberta. The project also involves the following WUN Universities: Cape Town (S Africa), Nanjing (China), Sydney (Australia), Leeds (UK).
The Global Social Initiative on Ageing will foster capacity building and the creation and transfer of knowledge on international issues relating to population ageing, with the aim of creating 'a society for all ages'. Professor Sue Yeandle will lead CIRCLE's participation in this network, attending the inaugural meeting at the University of Alberta, Canada, 29-31 March 2011.
Australian Government Gender Panel (October 2010)
Fiona Williams and Sue Yeandle have been appointed as international advisors on the Australian Government's Gender Panel in gender-related research for Australian Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA). This is a further research development in CIRCLE's collaboration with the Social Policy Research Centre at the University of New South Wales.
FAMILIES AT THE CENTRE - Negotiating Australia's Mixed Market in Early Child Care and Education (2010-2013)
Awarded to CIRCLE’s academic partners at the Social Policy Research Centre (SPRC), University of New South Wales, Australia, this 3-year project is made possible by a high-prestige grant awarded by the Australian Research Council.
FLOWS The impact of local welfare systems on female labour force participation and social cohesion(2011-2014)
CIRCLE is a partner in the FLOWS project, which has been awarded funding between 2011 and 2014 under the EU Framework 7 programme.
WOCAWO - Working Carers, Caring Workers (2008-2011)
CIRCLE is among the WOCAWO group's international partners, through the participation of Sue Yeandle and Gary Fry in conferences in Finland, Sweden, Taiwan and the UK, which will lead to publications planned for 2011 and 2012.
Political and Social Economy of Care in a Globalising World (PASEC)(2008-2011)
Fiona Williams and Sue Yeandle are working as partners with a new international research group, PASEC funded by REASSESS, the Nordic Centre of Excellence: reassessing in the Nordic welfare model.
Woodrow Wilson Center, Washington, USA (2010-2012)
Fiona Williams is part of a new international partnership headed by Professor Sonya Michel, Director of United States Studies at the Woodrow International Center for Scholars in Washington.
The group have recently been awarded a planning grant for a project on "The EU and the Challenge of Global Child Care Policymaking" from the consortium of the Compagnia di San Paolo, Turin/Italy, the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, Stockholm/Sweden and the Volkswagen Stiftung, Hanover/Germany. As part of this, Fiona presented papers to the International Workshop - "The EU, North America, and the Challenge of Global Policymaking for Social Care" held in Berlin on 18/19 February 2010. Following on from this meeting, a grant proposal for a three year project will be made to the Consortium in April 2010.
Centre of Industrial Collaboration (CIC) in Social Care (2007-2010)
This 3-year project within the Faculty of Education, Social Sciences and Law has established a new Centre of Industrial Collaboration in Social Care within CIRCLE.
The main aim of this Pilot Knowledge Transfer project is to develop external partnerships with agencies such as local authorities, health trusts, voluntary agencies and private social care providers to deliver applied research and consultancy activities. During 2008, a new partnership agreement with Carers UK was agreed.
Carers UK
CIRCLE's partnership with Carers UK began in 2002, and a renewal of this partnership occurred in 2008.
Equalities and Diversity Research Network
The Centre for Local Policy Studies at Edge Hill University have developed the Equality and Diversity Research Network, which focuses on encouraging an interdisciplinary perspective on equalities research in the complex area of policy practice.
Sue Yeandle, Lisa Buckner, Cinnamon Bennett and Gary Fry have joined the network that aims to generate new opportunities for collaborative research, stimulate debate between academics and practitioners and promote new opportunities for published output. The Network hosted two events in 2009.
