Government advisory work
In spring 2008, Professor Sue Yeandle was appointed Special Adviser to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Work and Pensions for its Inquiry on Carers. The Committee's report, Valuing and Supporting Carers, was published in August 2008. The report, which draws on research on carers undertaken by CIRCLE, makes recommendations to government about carers' access to information, benefits, employment and pensions.
This followed her membership in 2007-8 of the Employment Task Force, one of four task groups set up to support the development of the Prime Minister's National Carers Strategy 2008. Sue Yeandle attended the launch of the Strategy at No. 10 Downing Street in June 2008, and participated in a linked BBC Radio 4 You and Yours phone-in on the same day, with the Minister for Carers (Ivan Lewis MP) and the Chief Executive of Carers UK, Imelda Redmond.
