Arriving in Leeds
Arrival and registration
Before your arrival as a student at the University of Leeds, you will hear lots from us as to where to go and what to do, so there is no need to worry!
Everything will be in place to make sure your arrival in Leeds goes smoothly and help you to settle in quickly and easily.
Undergraduate students
You will be sent a welcome pack in September that will give full details of what you need to do before you arrive.
You will also be invited to an induction week before the start of term which will give you lots of opportunities to meet the other students on your course, as well as attend lots of useful sessions such as how to use the library, meet your tutors and find out about all the support that is available to you as an undergraduate student at Leeds.
Postgraduate students
We recommend that students taking taught courses that begin at the end of September should arrive in Leeds between 11 September and 16 September.
If you arrive in-between these dates, you will be able to use the university's free Meet and Greet Service and attend the International Welcome Week activities, including the essential International Orientation Programme.
You will also arrive in time to attend International Registration for undergraduates and taught postgraduates from 14 to 18 September. You can book University temporary accommodation for the period before you are able to move into your long-term accommodation.
There is no requirement to come to the School until the initial School orientation meeting, but, if you arrive in Leeds earlier than this date, either as a participant on the welcome programme for students from overseas, or simply to settle in, then we would be very pleased to meet you in the Postgraduate Office.
The University expects that many students will have registered before the initial meeting and information as to how to do this will be given to you at the welcome programme for international students.
We recognise that it will not be possible for all students to register. If you have not managed to do this by the time of the initial meeting, then it should not deter you from attending.
You will be given your student card when you register as part of the welcome programme.
Research students
Research students arriving before or after September need to arrive at least one week before they start their study programme.
As soon as you arrive, you should visit the International Office to receive your welcome pack and arrival briefing, and book a place on the International Office's Monthly Orientation Session for Research Students.
