Dr Rune Halvorsen
Marie Curie Research Fellow
Following my studies for the MA degree in Sociology at the University of Oslo, I completed my PhD degree in Sociology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway. Prior to my arrival at Leeds I had been a Senior Researcher at NOVA Norwegian Social Research and Associate Professor in Social Policy in Oslo and Akershus University College, Norway (a position which I am currently on leave from).
My central concern is to contribute new knowledge for sustainable European social models. I have been involved in several international research projects, especially research and development funded by the EU. I was the Norwegian partner in the European Marie Curie ITN DREAM, I participated in the EU FP7 projects COPE -Combatting Poverty in Europe and has been actively involved in coordinating the EU FP7 project DISCIT - Making Persons with Disabilities Full Citizens.
My main research interests are international and comparative welfare policy, social marginality, social movements and citizenship. During the last years I have in particular focused on disability policy, anti-poverty strategies and young adults in transition from education to employment.
I am currently working on the project ‘Realizing the political rights of persons with disabilities (PODI)’ which examines under which conditions disabled people’s organisations are most likely to achieve voice and influence on decision-making processes of importance for their own lives and for society as a whole.
