MA Disability, Ethnicity and Racism

If you are working or planning a career in the field of disability…

  • And wish to bridge the gap between your understanding of theory and practice…

If you want to explore the sociology of 'race'…

  • And the challenges of inequality…

If you want a sophisticated understanding of racism and ethnicity…

  • And to examine the various conceptual and theoretical debates…

…then MA in Disability, Ethnicity and Racism is the programme for you.

The MA in Disability, Ethnicity and Racism provides a unique opportunity to study the complex interplay of macro and micro forces that shape socio-cultural responses to and, therefore, the experience of disability, ethnicity and racism.

The programme draws heavily on the individual and collective experiences of disabled people and people from minority ethnic groups. Providing a space for meaningful dialogue and debate about these complex interlacing areas of social enquiry, the course supports recent trends in human rights discourse and equal opportunities policy at the local, national and international levels.

This timely and innovative postgraduate programme of study brings together the expertise of scholars and researchers from two internationally renowned Centres of Excellence, located in the School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds: The Centre for Disability Studies, and the Centre for Ethnicity and Racism Studies.
