About our centre
The Centre for Ethnicity and Racism Studies was set up in 1998. Since then, we have developed strong interdisciplinary networks and drawn together colleagues from over ten disciplines.
Our members include over sixty academics, practitioners, research staff and postgraduates working across a range of disciplines both at Leeds and in the North of England.
These researchers come from disciplines as diverse as Sociology and Social Policy, English, Law, Geography, Politics, Adult and Continuing Education, French, European Studies, Healthcare Studies, Dentistry, Primary Care, Theology and Jewish Studies.
Our Centre is primarily a vehicle for building interdisciplinary and regional collaboration in this field in order to develop research interests and ideas, generate joint research activities and projects, and attract research funds and graduate students.
We bring researchers with shared interests together, and enable and facilitate regular contact through seminars, postgraduate forums, workshops and bulletins.

Our origins
Our centre was built on the success of the Race and Public Policy Unit, an internal grouping within the School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds.
