Undergraduate student support
Student support from within the school
The School of Sociology and Social Policy assigns all students a personal tutor from amongst the academic staff. Personal tutors are available to offer general guidance on academic issues, such as choice of modules, and assist in dealing with personal queries or difficulties.
Additionally the School has a Student Support Officer responsible for developing and implementing strategies to ensure students get the maximum benefit from their time at Leeds. This includes providing support particularly in relation to personal development training and planning, peer mentoring, study skills and wider aspects of student welfare.
The Student:Staff Forum is a committee run by and for students and exists to discuss issues raised by student representatives on behalf of the wider student body.
In the first year, students will undertake the Study Skills for Social Science module designed to build on existing skills as well as introducing students to skills required at undergraduate level. This includes essay writing, researching, exam revision and preparation, referencing and avoiding plagiarism, giving effective presentations, group and teamwork.
