The English Defence League: a critical analysis of participation in English nationalist, patriot and loyalist movement.

This research is investigating the participation in contemporary English loyalist, patriot, and nationalist social movements using the English Defence League (EDL) as a case study. I am exploring how and why people participate in this movement, including for example, their ideology, what they are defending and what do they feel they gain both personally and politically from their involvement.

The research methods include interviews with EDL activists, observation of EDL activities and an analysis of public media the EDL produce and participate in such a videos, television and radio interviews, and documentaries and websites.

The aim of this research is to provide an accurate and nuanced insight into the EDL which will contribute to solutions in addressing social conflict.
